JASMINE DUBÉ | Artistic Director

On January 9, 2011, in the middle of its 26th season, Théâtre Bouches Décousues will be celebrating its 25th anniversary!

Yet it seems like only yesterday we were travelling from school to school presenting Bouches Décousues, an Econoline Minivan jam packed with sets, props and a five-member cast… Our own little merry band of travelling performers. How things have changed!

Over the past 25 years, young people’s theatre has undergone a major transformation. We have witnessed many great battles, reversals of fortunes and glorious triumphs. We’ve seen theatre companies come and go. We were there when the Maison Théâtre opened its doors and we observed as distribution networks took shape. In 25 years, we’ve staged 17 plays before thousands of people, here and abroad.

Throughout, the dramatic arts have been our focus. We are passionate communicators and defenders of the written word. We convey meaning, discover new art, devour projects and blow fire. The theatre is our life!

We are like volcanoes, bursting with energy and fire! Mireille Levert’s work “All I had to say” is a perfect fit for our brochure… a faithful representation of the words spoken through our unbuttoned lips; words from our past, present and – we hope – future, expressing our inner creative force, our volcanic eruption of light, passion and art. As always, there will be those who see flowers and those who see pebbles in our art, those who see gardens, broken hearts or tipping points. All interpretations are warmly welcomed.

We are now and shall always remain Don Quixotes, travelling from discovery to discovery in unknown lands of the Utopian frontier. Throughout our travels, we are joined by an intriguing cast of characters that include penguins, book rats, little monsters and blackbirds, Norahs, Leos, Paula Pans, Marguerites, Mikas and Ginkgos.

And, of course, we are gardeners, proud to celebrate our 26th season by presenting three gardens in full bloom! Les mauvaises herbes, on tour in Quebec; Ginkgo et la jardinière performing in Quebec and Belgium, in coproduction with the Théâtre Maât; and Marguerite on tour with the Conseil des arts de Montréal.

Other current projects include Leo the Zero, which will be touring France in French for the 7th time. Still available is The Dressmaker, continuing her intergenerational voyage between theatre and the visual arts.

A number of research and exploration projects are also on the horizon. Plans are in place to publish works from our repertoire as well as a piece marking TBD’s first quarter century.

Please join us in celebrating TBD’s 25th anniversary! We share with you the dream of continuing our creative journey through many children-filled gardens.

Wishing you a happy 26th season!
