Marguerite
When I was little…
And so Marguerite begins, with the story of life retold, from the before to the after, when Marguerite was no more than a little bud and the promise of a young girl. Seeds from days gone by, poems waiting to bloom, words pruned, age-old lullabies. Pictures whispering to the stars. An accordion longing for the sea. The moon shining down on twinkling petals… From the other side of the window, Marguerite smiles.
Théâtre Bouches Décousues’ interest in children’s theater is more than 20 years young. We appreciate the intimacy and affection created between adults and children. We like to think that our plays represent the children’s first encounter with theater, an experience for which they know neither the signs nor the rules. We are forced, as artists, to take nothing for granted, and we treasure this fresh perspective.
This appreciation was the basis for this explorative project involving young artists, several of whom also received the training in stage direction for young people’s theatre offered through Petits bonheurs and sponsored by Jasmine Dubé. Each passing season has provided these young artists with new opportunities to grow their gardens. Drawing inspiration from artists they have met along the way, including trips to France and Belgium, they searched for ways to express themselves through words and images. And that is how Marguerite came to plant her first seeds in La pépinière, presented at the Petits bonheurs festival in May 2009.
PIER-LUC ET MARIE-ÈVE : Oui ! C’est une petite fille.
MARIE-ÈVE : Alors, mes parents ont dit :
TOUS : Tu t’appelles Marguerite !
TOUS : Marguerite !
MARIE-ÈVE : Et me voici !
PHILOMÈNE : Me voici !
TOUS : Marguerite !
