Ginkgo et la jardinière

When words and notes take root…

The gardener lives under an old tree, a ginkgo biloba. In her own whimsical, jolly way, she tends to her seeds, plants and seedlings, as well as the egg she has been growing.  She harvests words and musical notes, cares for her old friend Ginkgo and calls on the wind, the rain and the sun. She acts as a bridge between seasons and generations. At the end of summer, she will witness the birth of a baby Ginkgo who will soon take the place of her old friend.

In Ginkgo et la jardinière, things come and go, life flirts with death. And with the passage of time comes tiny moments like the first chirp of a baby bird, the beauty of a setting sun, the discovery of an insect… The play takes a poetic look at the cycle of life.

Produced in collaboration with Brussel’s Théâtre Maât and its co-artistic director, stage director and composer Hadi El Gammal, Ginkgo et la jardinière marks Théâtre Bouches Décousues’ first international co-production. By creating a dialogue between theater and music, the play builds on the research that began with The Dressmaker (theater and visual arts) and Les flaques (theatre and dance).
